Hi , my name is Doug Thompson and I am an interior architect with over 25 years experience specialising in the Workplace sector.

After thirteen years in London , having worked in the retail , exhibition , residential and branding sectors , I moved to Singapore in 2009 . There I worked for Asias second largest design and build firm focusing on the workplace sector . 

As the joint Managing Director, my role saw me involved in many parts of the business where I worked closely with the BD , Finance , PM , QS , Bid Management and design teams on a daily basis . I was jointly accountable for a P&L set out every financial year by our Executive Board as well as the Opex of running the studio. During my time my team exceeded  all targets of booking, billing and EBIT and grew the studio .

Everyday had a different area of focus. I was active in the creative direction of projects , but 50-60% of my time was spent running the business across all of our business units , along with people management and helping direct and enable growth amongst the team.

I was client facing, led presentations with the team, and drove new business initiatives by creating conversations with clients around workplace trends and our experience post COVID , as a way of recommending the best solutions to them . I worked with HR to drive various internal initiatives ranging from design workshops , to wellness programs , and also spearheaded our recruitment program .

Although Singapore was the HQ , I also oversaw projects and new business opportunities in Bangkok , Philippines and Malaysia in partnership with our local studios. As a designer at heart I was very hands on with new pitches and winning strategies on projects along with the lead designers .

I played a role in our Executive Committee which comprises of all our global MD’s and C suite , and attended our quarterly EC workshops.

In 2023 my family and I moved back to Europe where I continue to work and consult on workplace projects , driving creativity and making an impact on businesses and their brands.   

All of the projects showcased were completed during my time in Asia with Space Matrix Consultants and are a testament to the creative teams that I worked with .
